UMR: Medical Plans

You have three medical plan options to choose from: Health Savings Plan, Classic Plan, and Premier Plan. All three medical plans:

  • Are administered by UMR.
  • Offer a nationwide network of providers and facilities.
  • Cover preventive care in-network at no cost to you.
  • Include prescription drug coverage through MedImpact.

Health Savings Account

If you enroll in the Health Savings Plan, you may open a Health Savings Account (HSA) with Optum Bank. The university contributes to your Health Savings Account, and you can make pretax contributions up to IRS limits.

Watch this medical plan overview video that explains your three medical plan options.

UMR: Flexible Spending Accounts

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) are tax-advantaged accounts administered by UMR that let you set aside part of your pay before taxes, which lowers your taxable income. You have two flexible spending account options:

  • A Healthcare FSA for eligible medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, and hearing expenses.
  • A Dependent Care FSA for eligible dependent day care expenses.

You can enroll in one or both FSAs. However, if you enroll in the Health Savings Plan, you can’t enroll in the Healthcare FSA.

MedImpact: Prescription Drug Coverage

Prescription drug coverage through MedImpact is included in the medical plan option you select. MedImpact offers a nationwide network of national chain pharmacies and independent pharmacies. The amount you pay for covered prescription drugs depends on the medical plan in which you’re enrolled, the type of prescription and if you’ve met your plan’s annual deductible or out-of-pocket maximum.

Watch this video for more information on your prescription drug plan.

Arkansas BlueCross BlueShield: Dental

Whether you need braces, a filling or just a regular dental checkup and cleaning, the dental plan, administered by Arkansas BlueCross BlueShield, has you covered. The annual maximum benefit per person per calendar year is $1,750.

SmartCare

If you are enrolled in a university medical plan, you can save on health care costs through the SmartCare program.

You don’t have to enroll for SmartCare. The savings are automatically applied when you visit a provider at a University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) facility, the Pat Walker Health Center, or the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Health Center. Note that not all UAMS facilities participate in SmartCare.
